| The ballpoint used to be my favorite simple machine – one of the ball and socket joints as they call it in science. And as it smoothes against the roughness of any medium that I use, for me its more than an instrument. It helps me release not only my negative emotions, but also it invites positive force towards me. I used to be a one of the contributors in our school newspaper. I write anything under the sun - from acrostic to ballad, from sonnets to blank verses. I just wish I had this chance to compile them so I can compare how I write then and now. I used to be one of the students with the best handwriting in class, but not anymore. Now I rarely touch a pen. Or I don’t even use it at all. Blame technology for that. Now I can’t even perfect my signature when signing for checks. Good thing I’m a doctor. Because they say doctors have the worst penmanship in the world. At least I have an alibi. I don’t know if it always follows though. It’s been quite a while since I had my last poem written. And it’s almost a decade since I had my last song composition. I don’t know if I still can draw. Had a few sketches drawn for the floor decoration but I think I already lost my touch. Blame dentistry for that. I used to have great free hand dexterity. Now it’s more of finger rest and guard. So, who’s to blame really? Lol. Now as my fingertips touch every key on this computer, it makes me realize how far technology has grown. And it makes me sad that the ball and socket that used to be my favorite machine becomes less functional in the generation now. Even though, no matter how obsolete it can be in the future, they can’t just take the memories away. It still will be my most favorite simple machine – my parker black fine point pen. |
